Mansoura, Egypt, October 30, 2025 / TRAVELINDEX / Prof. Cherif Khater, President of Mansoura University, received today a high-level delegation from the Afro-Asian Union (AFASU), headed by Prof. Hossam Darwish, President of the Union, and Major General Ashraf Abu Aish, Secretary General of AFASU. The meeting was also attended by Prof. Mohamed Ahmed Abdel Latif, Dean of the Faculty of Tourism and Hotels, along with several faculty members.
The visit came as part of AFASU’s initiative to honor Mansoura University for its pioneering role in supporting education, scientific research, and community engagement. During the ceremony, the delegation presented the AFASU Shield of Appreciation to the University President and the prestigious “Most Influential Academic Award 2025/2026” to Prof. Mohamed Ahmed Abdel Latif.
This international recognition, granted within the framework of the AFASU Golden Awards, acknowledges his outstanding achievements in advancing tourism and hotel education across Africa and beyond.
Prof. Cherif Khater warmly welcomed the AFASU delegation, expressing his gratitude for the visit and for the Union’s recognition of the university’s academic excellence and distinguished scholars. He praised Prof. Abdel Latif’s exceptional academic and scientific contributions in the fields of tourism, heritage, and sustainable development at local, regional, and international levels, affirming that Mansoura University takes pride in its distinguished professors who continuously elevate the university’s reputation worldwide.
In his remarks, Prof. Hossam Darwish, President of the Afro-Asian Union, expressed his great pride in visiting Mansoura University, describing it as one of the most prominent Egyptian and Arab universities with an outstanding record of academic and research achievements. He noted that Prof. Abdel Latif’s selection for the Most Influential Academic Award was unanimously endorsed by the Union’s committee, in recognition of his remarkable academic journey and his significant contributions to tourism and hotel education. He added that his affiliation with Mansoura University, known for its high academic standards, has greatly enhanced his international stature among scholars and experts in the field.
At the conclusion of the meeting, Prof. Mohamed Ahmed Abdel Latif expressed his deep appreciation to the Afro-Asian Union (AFASU) for this esteemed honor, and to Mansoura University for its continuous support of excellence, innovation, and community service.
